The
fears that we naturally struggle with in the face of death become especially
acute when a loved one dies. The loneliness and sense of loss can be overwhelming,
and we all have to go through a grieving process. Some feel the separation
from a loved one so keenly that they try to make contact with their dead
loved ones. They can fall under the influence of spiritist mediums or
New Age channelers who claim they can communicate with the dead.
But the Bible specifically warns us against trying to ease the pain of
death in this way:
“When
men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter,
should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf
of the living?”
