This mark is mentioned in Rev. 13:16; 14:9,11; 15:2; 16:2; 19:20; 20:,4. In all these places the words "the mark" or "his mark" are used, showing that some one particular mark is referred to. This mark is not explained, only as the mark of the Papal beast, to be enforced by the two-horned beast, and as standing in direct opposition to "the commandments of God," and "the seal of the living God." This mark is very conspicuous, in the forehead or hand, and signifies, not a literal mark, but a prominent religious profession, as clearly seen and known as a literal mark in the forehead or hand. It must be an institution of the Papal beast, a prominent point of religious faith, on which the Papal and Protestant churches agree. Relative to this mark we shall speak more fully hereafter.
