All About Jesus, Volume 1

Chapter 188

The Works Testify

While in prison, John the Baptist, hearing concerning the works of Christ, sent two of his disciples to Him to inquire, "Are you He who should come, or do we look for another?" (Matthew 11:3)

Instead of answering him as we would naturally think He would, He simply replied: "Go, show John again these things which you hear and see: The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the Gospel preached unto them." (Matthew 11:4-5)

In this case it was the works that testified to the true messiahship of the Saviour. So today, it is the works we do and the words we utter that tell for or against the Gospel. May they all be wrought in Jesus Christ, so that: "Whether therefore we eat, or drink, or whatsoever we do, [we may] do all to the glory of God."
