Gleanings from the Psalms

Chapter 72

Psalm 33: Exhaustless Stores of Mercy

"Let your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, according as we hope in You." (Psalm 33:22)

What infinite resources there are for us in that sentence. It is true that it is only a prayer, but it is a prayer inspired by the Holy Spirit, and therefore it is equal to a promise by the Holy Spirit. It is a promise that we may have, from the mercy of God, anything that we hope for.

We cannot exhaust His mercy. Not only may we have all that we hoped for from God, but: "[He is] able to do it exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think." (Ephesians 3:20)

And whatever God is able to do, He will do. Then let us put on love, the bond of perfectness, (Colossians 3:14) "that hopes all things," (1 Corinthians 13:7) and all things are ours.--Present Truth, August 10, 1893--Original title: Front Page--Psalm 33:22.
