"It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto your name, O most High: To shew forth your lovingkindness in the morning, and your faithfulness every night." (Psalm 92:1-2)
The Scriptures tell us that it is a good thing to show forth God's faithfulness every night.
Every one who has had any experience in that line can testify that it is indeed a good thing to know God's faithfulness at night. It is good to know in the silent night, when unseen dangers are around, and the pestilence may be walking abroad, that God's faithfulness remains unchanged.
And what is this faithfulness? God's faithfulness is shown in the forgiveness of sins; for we read: "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9) "He will not always chide, neither will He keep His anger for ever." (Psalm 103:9)
He tells us not to let the sun go down upon our wrath; (Ephesians 4:26) and so we may with confidence come to Him at evening time, expecting that all the sins of the day will be forgiven.
It is this separation of our sins from us, by the faithfulness of God, that gives calm confidence in the darkest night. "I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep; for You, Lord, only make me dwell in safety." (Psalm 4:8)--Present Truth, January 15, 1903--Psalm 92:1-2.
