Gleanings from the Psalms

Chapter 152

Psalm 104: Pensioners on God's Bounty

What a wonderful householder God is! how vast is His estate, and what an infinite number of tenants He has! But, unlike the tenants of most landlords, instead of contributing to His support, they subsist wholly on His bounty, paying no rent whatever. Thus, we read, "O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom You have made them all: the earth is full of your creatures. Yonder is the sea, great and wide, wherein are creeping things innumerable, both small and great beasts. These wait all upon You, that You may give them their meat in due season. That You give them they gather; You open your hand, they are satisfied with good." (Psalm 104:24-28,margin)

They are all looking to the Lord for their food, and expecting that He will provide it. When the wild beasts roar, they are asking God for their portion. And He has it ready for them; He keeps them merely for the pleasure of seeing them enjoy themselves.

What a source of encouragement this is for man made in His image to be a companion for Him, to trust Him for support.--Present Truth, January 22, 1903--Psalm 104:24-28.
